With the summer being upon us (with a small lack of sun) we felt that it was time to make sure that staff and young people at St. Martins were getting a regular workout on a Monday evening.
This brings us to Tabata... a way of working out for short periods at high intensity for quick results. This involves a regimen of 20 seconds ultra-intense exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated continuously for 4 minutes (8 cycles). With a one minute rest, we then continued on to the next type of exercise for the same length of time. In total, we managed to do this for 30 minutes, all agreeing that we felt energised and could feel effects of the exercise.
Research shows that two weeks of high intensity training can substantially improve insulin action in young men, possibly preventing a method for prevention of type-2 diabetes.
